Courses We Offer

Theatre IThis one-semester course offers students an introduction to the many facets of theatre including Theatre History (Greek to Elizabethan), and an Introduction to Acting techniques. Students are introduced to activities to improve their command of body and voice while building confidence in these abilities. Students develop skills enabling them to speak and write clearly and expressively. They also refine their abilities to collaborate on performances, as they learn to constructively evaluate their own and others' efforts. Recommendation: An overall "C" average. 

Theatre IIThis one-semester course builds upon the skills developed in Acting I. Students will study Theatre History (Spanish Golden Age to Modern Theatre), two-person scene work, along with advanced partner acting techniques using the works of Meisner. Students develop skills that enable them to create a deeper understanding of scene work and how to become good scene partners. They also refine their abilities to collaborate on performances, as they learn to constructively evaluate their own and others’ efforts. Prerequisite: Completion Theatre I with a "B" average.

Adv Theatre IThis one-semester course builds sequentially on skills learned in Acting I and Acting II. This course focuses Theory of Theatre from the viewpoint of our Modern Theatre Theorist, Stanislavski, Brecht, Artaud, and Beckett. Along with learning how to devise an original work of theatre and create a deeper understanding of the creative process. This course also allows students to expand upon their ability to make artistic decisions and evaluations by discussing and critiquing live performances. Prerequisite: Completion of Theatre I and Theatre II with a "B" average.

Adv Theatre IIThis one-semester class builds sequentially on skills learned in Acting I, II, and Adv Theatre 1. This course will continue to explore the historical tradition and the repertoire of the theatre. Areas of study include Eastern Theatre History, and Stage Combat, along with learning intro directorial techniques and creating an understanding of the theatrical production process. Prerequisite: Completion of Theatre I, Theatre II, and Adv Theatre I with a "B” average.

Adv ActingThis One-semester course will allow students to build on the knowledge from prior theatre courses in the classroom. In this acting intensive course, students will analyze scripts, workshop acting performances, and learn about many different methods and approaches to acting, and Advanced Devised Theatre. Students will also create a professional digital portfolio and Audition ready monologue for their repertoire. Prerequisite: Completion of Theatre I and II, and Adv Theatre I and II with a "B” average. Teacher approval is required. 

Theatre Direction – This one-semester course is focused on how to direct a theatrical production. Using skills learned in Theatre I and II students will direct scenes in class, create a Children's Theatre Production, and Direct and Produce Our One Acts Production. This class is for students who are wanting learn more about the work that goes on behind the scenes to create a theatrical performance and for students who are considering going into the theatre as aa career. Prerequisite: Completion of Theatre I and II with a “B” Average. Teacher approval is required.
